In order to promote the "double first-class" discipline construction of the College of Physics and broaden the international perspective, our college has selected 12 excellent undergraduates to attend the "Jilin University - Cambridge University 'Computational Physics' Academic Workshop" from August 4th to August 12th, 2018.

Cambridge University is a world-renowned public research university and one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in the UK. Cambridge University ranks second in the world in the latest world university rankings published by the Times Higher Education in 2017-2018. Physics is a traditional preponderant subject of Cambridge University. In the history of more than 800 years of Cambridge University, Newton, Darwin and other leading scientists have emerged.

This academic workshop invited seven professors, scholars and front-line researchers from the Cambridge University to make several academic reports on "Computational Physics" and scientific research progress reports for students, which greatly broadened their horizons and stimulated their interest in scientific research and exploration of the unknown world.

During the activity, the professors also led students to visit the famous Cavendish Laboratory, let them appreciate the first socialized and professional scientific laboratory in the history of modern science. Founded in 1874, Cavendish Laboratory is one of the world's top science laboratories, home to 29 Nobel Prize winners. The laboratory has spawned an enormous number of important scientific achievements that affect human progress and made significant contributions to human scientific development.

This academic workshop also organized students to visit some classic buildings such as King's College, Queen's College, Mathematical Bridge and Hawking's bell of Cambridge university. Students learned the profound history and culture of Britain and of Cambridge University. Walking among the historic stately church and the ivy - covered old buildings, experiencing the learning atmosphere of Cambridge and imagining the countless great scientists born here, all of these make this workshop unforgettable. What they saw and heard is not only a feast of knowledge, but also enrich their life experience.

The success of this academic workshop has promoted the level of talent cultivation. The college will continue to boost exchanges and cooperation with the Cambridge University, constantly develop quality projects, sponsor students to go to the world's top universities for exchange and study, and contribute to the further promotion of the college's "double first-class" discipline construction.

In addition, Vice Dean Du Fei visited the Physics Department of the University of Sheffield. The two sides held in-depth discussions on several projects, such as "3+ 1" joint undergraduate education and "4+ 1" undergraduates and postgraduate Programme, and reached preliminary cooperation intention.
